Supporting ICT based Enterprise for Women 

The falling cost of technology has generated self-employment opportunities for women in ICT-based enterprises, but the great expectations need to be tempered with a realistic assessment of the country's IT infrastructure and the need for women to further enhance their entrepreneurial aptitude.
Project activities
  • organizing  workshop  and seminars for  prospective women entrepreneurs
  • launching a handbook on women’s ICT-based enterprises in Bengali 
  •  Disseminating the activities in the media
  • Production of documentary film on successful women entrepreneurs 
  • Individual /group of women is being supported to set up ICT-based enterprises
Workshop & Seminar
Change Initiatives  organized  another  half-day seminar  on ICT based Enterprise for Women in collaboration with Jeevika Development Society  on 9th February 2007 in Joka,  district 24 Pargana(S).  Ms. Dolan Ganguly  from Jeevika discussed the issue of economic empowerment for women. The various topics covered in the seminar was how women can became ICT entrepreneurs, what are the various business opportunities, role of Change Initiatives as a support agency. Mr. Janardan Das from Sagar Grameen Bank  discussed the possibilities of various  bank loan . 
Change Initiatives organized a half-day seminar  on ICT based Enterprise for Women in collaboration with Howrah Municipal Corporation on 31st January 2007 in Howrah district. The various topics covered in the seminar was how women can became ICT entrepreneurs, what are the various business opportunities, role of Change Initiatives as a support agency. Mr. Bidyut Ghosh, Project Officer HMC discussed the possibilities of support by the HMC authority including state & central government schemes and bank loan . 
Change Initiatives organized a half-day seminar on ICT based Enterprise for Women in collaboration with Small Industries Service Institute (SISI),  Kolkata on 21st November 2006 in Baranagar, Kolkata. The topics covered in the seminar was how women can became ICT entrepreneurs, what are the various business opportunities, role of Change Initiatives as a support agency, role of District Industrial Commission, role of Khadi Village Industrial Commission and bank loan. 
Change Initiatives organized a two day workshop on ICT based Enterprise for Women on 2nd and 3rd March 2006 at The Tower International, Salt Lake Electronics Complex, Kolkata.. Dr. G.D. Gautam, Special Secretary, Department of IT, Government of West Bengal inaugurated this workshop. Also present at the occasion were President of Change Initiatives Mr. Sibaji Roy, Vice President Ms. Mukul Mukherjee & Workshop Convener Ms. Alokananda Roy. The entire session was presided by Director of Change Initiatives Ms. Jhumpa Ghosh Ray.  

The two-day workshop had five technical sessions that included various support opportunities for ICT based women enterprisers from government, bank technical institute like  IIT Kharagpur and private sector organization. To learn more about the workshop:  click here

The Handbook

Change Initiatives has especially restructured an English-language University of Manchester handbook on Supporting ICT based Enterprise for Women with local information and case studies relevant in the context of West Bengal in Bangla. Reading this handbook will help to understand how women can get immediate and direct benefits from ICTs: jobs, income, skills, empowerment, etc.

Film Show
A short documentary film has been produced on two successful woman ICT Entrepreneur who has successfully running IT based business in December 2006. The film has two version one in Bengali and the other in English.

The film is shown in seminars organized by Change Initiatives for this purpose. It will be also distributed to the organizations that supports women in enterprise development.
