  • M.S. 2002, Oklahoma State University
  • Ph.D. (Anticipated, 2004), Oklahoma State University

Background:I'm a fourth year graduate student in a clinical psychology program. I graduated from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a minor in religion. Between undergraduate and graduate school I spent a year working at Duke University Medical Center in the Attention Deficit Disorder Program. On a personal note, I enjoy reading, watching sports, cooking, and spending time with my family.

Research Interests: I am interested in studying coping strategies of children with chronic illnesses. My thesis examined the transactional patterns of adjustment, specifically depression, in children with juvenile rheumatic diseases and their parents. I have recently submitted my thesis for publication. My dissertation examines cognitive appraisal mechanisms in children with juevnile rheumatic diseases. More specifically, by assessing perceived control and attributional style, I am able to look at how the cognitive diathesis-stress model of depression applies to this population.

Clinical Interests: Currently, I serve as the assistant director of the PsychologicalServices Center at OSU. I have enjoyed working with both adult and child child clients as well as providing supervisory assistance to fellow students. I also served as a practicum student as the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) on a grant that aimed to prevent post traumatic stress disorder in children who had been admitted to the ER trauma. In addition, I received some experience with consultation and liason services for pediatric patients at OUHSC. Upon completion of my classwork, I would like to do an internship in pediatric psychology and focus my career on working wiht chronically ill children.
