Hypertension Study This study was designed to examine the
health-related (i.e., physical and psychological) benefits of written
emotional disclosure in individuals with essential hypertension.
Previous research has utilized this paradigm (e.g., Pennebaker &
Beall, 1986), and most studies have demonstrated significant positive
effects of this short-term treatment intervention. The present study
supports these prior research findings, and adds to the literature
examining the effects of emotional disclosure in chronic health
conditions. This study is in the process of being written for
publication, and has influenced the development of other treatment
outcome-oriented studies in our laboratory.
