First of all,in case you didn't know.Most videos have an AVI extension.They are very common indeed! The only problem is that they are also quite large!
This is Camstudio! It allows you 2 record the screen 2 make an AVI and convert AVIs 2 SWFs! Of course the Flash movies aren't very good quality.

Virtualdub is what I use 2 edit my videos.It's probably good if you want 2 take something out of a video or recompress it with a different codec

I just found the coolest thing! It makes animated GIFs! You can make 1 GIF out of a collection of GIFs or AVIs!

Quicktime is what is required 2 play MOV files.A lot of people need it since their cameras produce these kind of movies!
