You may wonder why I am making a page about DOS.You may even wonder what is is! It's the OS(Operating System) That was used before Windows! Of course there are other things called DOS but I'm talking about MS-DOS.

You can make a DOS startup disk if you have a floppy drive and disk. Now why would you want 2 do such a thing? Well, you wouldn't unless you're weird, you want 2 see what it's like,or you're a DOS expert who likes it.There are 2 ways 2 make a DOS startup disk.If you're using Windows you can right click on a floppy and select format. Then make sure you check the box that says "Create an MS-DOS startup disk"

Now after all that, what if you have no clue how 2 use DOS? It's not easy 2 learn! I read a lot of books.

Here is 1 good place. http://www.computerhope.com/msdos.htm

Batch files are the coolest feature of DOS! http://www.computerhope.com/batch.htm

Search the internet 4 some more info. After you think you're ready.you can just shutdown your computer and turn in on while the floppy is in the drive.

Then you will see DOS! It's actually possible 2 use DOS without leaving windows, but there are certain games and things that only work in true DOS.

The only sad thing about DOS is that it can't read NTFS drives! However I do have some good news!

I saved a bunch of money are my car insurance by switching 2 Geico.Just kiidding! The good news is

You can use this! http://download2.lsoft.net/NtfsFloppySetup.exe

Format a floppy disk, but do not make a startup disk. Then run the above program.

It will create a special program on a floppy that can read NTFS drives!

Actually,it's really DOS with a bunch of utilities. The NTFS reader is the main feature.

It can view files in the same way as a hex editor, but you can't edit them. You can however copy them 2 a

different location! Then you can edit them with something else.So this is the only way 2 access certain Windows files!

I recently discovered something awesome! FreeDOS! http://www.geocities.com/chandlerklebs/FreeDOS.htm
