As Jackie's niece, Jade Chan is obliged to finish her homework, go to bed early on a school night, etc. But as Jackie's protege, Jade also feels she is entitled to accompany her uncle on all his adventures -- whether Jackie likes it or not, in which case it is usually the latter. But while she is always discouraged from these dangers, Jade has made up her mind: she is going. Usually she turns out to be quite useful to Jackie, and together they are a team.
Aside from being adventurous, Jade is known to be wild, cunning, down-to-earth, and innocent, as every child is. The reason she lives with Jackie in the first place is because she was doing poorly in Hong Kong, and her parents thought Jackie tone her down. Well, neither her spirit nor her tempter "toned down," but she did gain a bit more wisdom and even managed to teach Jackie a thing or two.
At first Jackie was a bit wary of Jade, and Jade was expecting a sort of run-of-the-mill uncle, nothing big there. But when she saw Jackie's fighting skills in the first episode, one could see she was mightily impressed. There were rough spots as Jade lived with her uncle, but in the end, they both learned to appreciate each other and their company.
