The Making of an Animation Short, "The Fighting Fish from Siam"
A huge movie fan all my life,  I've always dreamt of producing one myself (although my childhood ambition was to be a zoo keeper... but that's another story for another time).

Well for a start, I would like to produce a 5-10 minute length short film that would entail the writing of script, sourcing for locations/actors, directing, shooting, editing and even composition of the soundtrack. The first step is always the hardest and for almost 2 months, I was unable to come up with a workable script.

In late 2001, during a trip to Bangkok.. I came across a quirky little market stall that sold only fighting fish. The shop walls were lined with rows of jars, each with a fighting fish and a blade of Java fern. That colourful image stayed in my mind for quite a while and later inspired me to come out with a storyline...revolving around a fighting fish.  The choice of using computer animation instead of life action was obvious... but came a bit late as I had already invested $3,200 on a semi-professional digital video camera *sigh*.

Looking back, it does seem as though I was meant to (fated?) make this 'movie'...all the interests and hobbies I've ever had (watching movies, drawing, painting, photography, computers, music, sculpturing, animals, reading, etc.) have been preparing me for this.... ultimate project!

Progress has been very slow though and the storyline and characters are still evolving...

To be continued....
