“The
Caravan goes on”
BY ZUHAIR ABBAS
Score has passed since I first started
The Journey to eternity through this vast field
Although morning and nights are unchanged
Weathered many storms have I
Procured sanctuary from the shower of despair
So has the sun shone and moon proliferated its light
Have I
enjoyed basked in its grandeur
Yet when I look back at the past
I unearth
faces peering from the grave of friendship
Ah! Then I was juvenile, qualms a gratis
Play and
gaiety amongst friends
In a limitless warmth and love fringe
Alas! We
are apart and discrete
Wafted away like seeds in a cosmic bed
Each seed
growing in its own place
Common secrets gone each has it’s own to trace
Union is
now not the same
Unknown familiarity exists but like before.
Unable as I am to meet them now
My
childhood places do I haunt at night
The field
has tainted a lot since then
New friends
and acquaintances have I now made
I have to
keep trudging on and on
For if I
impede to look back I’ll be trodden
Trampled-
by others in the caravan
