“Chapter 8: Betrayal Part II: The Repercussion.”
Nothing could be said about Ben and Shania at this critical
moment of their lives. Both were in a stage of Coma in the ICU, with no such
hope of life, and I blame Lyonell for that.
I mean how could she do this to us? Was there any hostility between
Lyonell and us? Strange thoughts pervaded in my mind as I rested in the General
Ward with a fresh bouquet of flowers and Get Well Soon card on the table beside
my bed.
As I tried to get up
for some water; my throat had parched, I saw a girl of about fifteen, simpering
slyly. “Weird, isn’t it, Kenan, you ending up here, while Shania and Ben
fight for their lives in coma, struggling with death, in order to live, how
pathetic, too bad they won’t be with us anym......” “Who are you to say
that? you don’t even know what happened? By the way, who are you to
interfere.” I interrupted her in a rage, trying to control my emotions.
“Hold your horses, Kenan, I’m not quite finished yet, probably, I haven’t
introduced myself well.” “You better...” “I’m Lia, Lyonell’s
......” “Don’t ever mention her name again in front of me.” I fumed.
Quite a few months after the incident, I had gone to Tokyo with
Shania, who was perfectly fine, as her operation had gone successful, to
overcome the shock caused by the episode. There I met Lia again, she had dyed
her hair black and changed her outfit by then, so as to masquerade herself, but
her eerie memory haunted me too. This time she was with another guy, who
somewhat resembled her. “Kenan, again, what are you doing here.” she asked
straightening her curls. “That’s none of your business, Lia, and by the way
may I ask, what you are.......” “Tut tut, fine memories, oh Shania, you
unfortunately survived the....” I was about to slap her when a hand caught
mine. “How dare you hit my sister. No one can dare touch here when I’m
here.” said he, catching me by my jacket.
“Lia, peux je quitter, s’il vous plait
comprendre, non parler
avec.....” Lia’s brother spoke to her, making her understand it was useless
arguing with us, when I interrupted him. “écouter,
whoever....” “Kenan, stop it, just forget it, and you two (turning to Lia
and her brother) what do you
want?” intervened Shania. “It’s
quite obvious from the events that occurred a few months ago, I’m Lia,
daughter of Lyonell Campbell and this is my brother Jean. I will explain
everything on my way. You have to come with me to the house near St. Thomas’
cemetery.”
“Why?” I asked, knowing it was far too perilous to trust her.
“No questions, or else” Jean cracked his knuckles. This was too
risky. Lia and Jean were sort of black mailing us.
“Sort of... sort of black mailing us, I think these people are
a bunch of French creeps and don’t deserve to be trusted.” Shania remarked,
scurrying from here to there in anxiety. “I don’t know what they want, I
certainly have no idea what they are up to. It is strange.” said I thinking
over again what was the problem, why were Lia and Jean doing this. “Just as
Lia said, It’s quite obvious from the events that occurred a few months ago,
she means by the Lyonell account and the graveyard episode.” said Ben after we
had narrated him the story. He had recovered too, but had sinus congestion.
“Like duh?” said Shania hoping her brother could think much wise. “You
know why Lia is doing this?” I grinned. “Why?” Shania finally got
interested.
