            The first night Mother comes home, Red can’t sleep. He listens to the sounds next door, and clutches his stuffed Pichu to his chest tightly. Mother sounds like she’s crying. He hopes Father isn’t hurting her, but at the same time, he takes a rather vengeful pleasure in it.

            After all, Mother left them to work on the Master Ball project for Silph. She hasn’t been home in years…

            He’s glad though, because he had Father’s time and attention and everything, and Father was just beginning to cuddle him when she came back.

            Now, he sits with his back against the wall and prays for Lugia to strike her down dead, so he can have Father back.

            His prayers must have worked, because a week later, Mother is in her hospital to get her appendix out, and something goes wrong, and she dies.

            That night, he knows Father will need comforting, so he sneaks into bed with him, and Father pets him and cuddles him and holds him close, and he’s happy now.

            He doesn’t miss Mother at all.

            Should he?

            Maybe, but he doesn’t care any more, since Father is his.
