            It’s funny to think about, but Red is jealous of his Mother. Now that she’s turned big and fat, Father spends all his time with her and not with him any more. Red is angry, because he knows a new little brother or sister is on the way, and that will change everything. Mother has already started to put furniture that’s ugly and pink all over his room, and he knows that he’ll have to share with that little brother or sister and he doesn’t. Want. To.

            He can’t let Mother take Father away from him, and he sure won’t let some ugly baby take Father away either!

            Mother was gone for a long time, many years, and he had Father all to himself, but then Mother came back and she brought a big ugly baby with her.

            Father is his. His!

           

            When Delia miscarries and dies, Lance holds Red close, and whispers that ‘You’re all I have left’ with tears in his eyes.

            Red smiles into his Father’s jacket, and never tells what he did.

            Lance suspects, but he doesn’t question Red on it, because…

            He never liked her in the first place.
