This was my first 510 sedan. Bought it in Austin, TX from a Grad student. Funny thing about the car - it started life in Washington and that's where I ended up selling it a few years later.

1963 Impala Super Sport

This was my first project car back in college.

327cu in, dual exhaust, 2spd Powerglide...8mpg in the city and a few years later, I had to let it go. Actually, I wasn't driving it, I was living in apartments at the time with limited parking space, had just bought the 66 VW below, as well as a new VW for the wife, oh yeah, and my 74 260Z - all of which were sucking up parking spots. Then, when about 5 quarts of tranny fluid drained out in the parking lot, that was the last straw. Lesson learned = if you're not driving it, drain the fluids before seals dry up.

What you see is about a year of work from the frame up. It helped to have connections in the business, but it still wasn't cheap.

This was one of the coolest rides of all time. Talk about living on the edge. 1641cc's would peg out the speedo. I'm still convinced that the design has inherent stealth technologies, because I should have gotten many a ticket.

It was a sad day when my 66 Bus had to go to make room for my 71 510. One day we will reunite.
