My Corner- FAQ's
Here you will find the answers to some of life's little mysteries, although mainly the ones concerning The Sims.  If you have a question that isn't answered here, you can still email me.  However, if you ask a question that is answered here, you are not likely to receive another one from me, at least not anytime soon.
Q.  What do I do with my houses once I've downloaded them?
A. Oh goody, an easy one.  First off, you need to unzip the file, using Microsoft's WinZip.  There is a place where you can download a free shareware copy, and there are probably other programs that you can use too.  But I don't know what they are.
Once you've unzipped everything, look at the files you have.  My houses usually come with only 2 files, the house itself and a ReadMe.  The house file will be an iff (you can check what kind of file it is by right clicking and choosing Properties, if you don't recognize the icon).  Take that one and put it in you
The Sims/User Data/Houses folder.  Usually you can find these by going to My Computer, then choosing C/Program Files/Maxis, depending on where you put the game when you installed it.  The computer will ask you if you want to replace the file that's already in the folder, click "yes."  You're done!  Be warned, however, that whatever was on that lot previously will now be lost in cyberspace.
If you have Livin' Large or House Party, you get extra neighborhoods.  Then things get a bit more complicated.  Instead of installing the house to Neighborhood 1 by putting it the User Data/Houses folder, you can install it to Neighborhood 2, 3, 4, etc. by putting it into the User Data 2, 3, 4, etc/Houses folder.
Q.  But what if I already have a house on that lot that I want to save, or I want to move a house from one neighborhood to another?
A. The easiest way to do this is by using the program Lot Manager, which you can download for free from Paladin's Place (www.simwardrobe.com).  Or, you can do it manually.  If you want to save an existing house for later use, you can take it out of the Houses folder (or make a copy) and move it to a seperate folder, or put it on a floppy disk, or burn it onto a CD or whatever.  It's also a good idea to rename the file too, so you can figure out which house it is without having to install it and then open the game (i.e., instead of "House 3" you could have "House 3- Red Brick w/ Front Garden").  When you're ready to put it back into the game, delete part of the new name so that it once again reads only "House 3," otherwise it won't show up in the game.
If you want to move a house from one neighborhood to another, just copy it, and then paste it into the new neighborhood's folder.
Q.  Why does the ocean appear blue when you look at it, but when you put some in a glass it's just clear? (or sort of grey and muddy)
A.
That's because the water isn't really blue, it just looks that way because the blue sky is reflected on the surface of the water.
Q.  Okay, then why is the sky blue?
A.
This is a question better asked of your parents just before they put you to bed, especially if you're looking to stay up a bit longer.  Try it sometime.
Q. What happens if I install a house, but I don't have all the objects and walls and floors and stuff that goes with it?
A.
Gasp!  You actually did that!  Now, your sims will all die, your game will crash, your computer will blow up, and everyone in a five-mile radius from your desktop will die in the resulting inferno.  And it's all your fault.
Kidding.  That worst that will happen is that you'll get a "missing objects" message every time you load that house, and you'll see some bare spots where the furniture is gone.  If you're missing floors or walls, the game will automatically replace them with whatever you do have and is closest in price.  Annoying but relatively minor.
Q.  What can I do if I can't find an item on the shopping list?
A.
Well, you have several options.  If you know which site the item is from and what it is, you can email the webmaster and see if they can tell you where to find it.  Or, you can e-mail me and ask me where to find it.   If the objects isn't from a paysite, and the creator doesn't mind, you can post on a forum or email me and someone can send you the file by email.  One good way to find out is to check the Preservation of Bandwidth Society list at the N99 forum.  Or, if you don't want to go to all that trouble, you can simply install the house without it (see next  question).
Q.  Why is it that dogs wag their tails when they're happy and growl when they're mad, but cats growl when they're happy and wag their tails when they're mad?
A.
I don't know.  Cats are just strange like that.

Please make sure that I haven't already addressed it before you e-mail me, it's annoying.  But, if you need further explanation, or have a problem, feel free to contact me.  I'll do my best to answer it for you, and will add it to the FAQs as I see fit.  Thanks!
