Moulin Rouge... a great movie, but goofy things in it, nonetheless. All retrieved from the ever useful IMDB unless stated.
Revealing mistakes: In the part where Toulouse is on the roof, talking about how the Bohemian Revolution is, here you can see his real legs moving between his fake ones. Contributed by FanDeEwan.
Revealing mistakes: When Toulouse is rehearsing his line, Christian says "Then the magical sitar player falls from the roof and says..." But Toulouse doesn't play a magical sitar player, just a magical sitar. Contributed by Chelsy.
Interesting question: If Christian said he didn't know anything about the Moulin Rouge, Harold Zidler, or Satine, then how come his father's voice in his head said, "You'll be wasting your life away at the Moulin Rouge with a can can dancer!"? Fan contributed.
Interesting question: If Christian is punched in the face, how come in Spectacular, Spectacular he doesn't have the bruise? Fan contributed.
Interesting question: If Christian sold his typewriter, how did he get it back at the end? Fan contributed.
Interesting question: If Christian is poor where did he get all that whiskey? Fan contributed.
Continuity: When Satine gets on top of Christian when they're in the elephant for the first time, his bowtie is sometimes on and sometimes off. Contributed by Elise.
Revealing mistakes: Right after Christian is done singing "Your Song" to Satine, it shows his four friends on the head of the elephant looking in. Satie (the music guy) is in the middle holding Tolousse and the two other guys are holding Satie, but he is fake. If you look closely, he has no face, is not moving and the two guys holding his legs are swinging them around. Contributed by Ana.
Continuity: In the scene where Christian and Satine are in the elephant together and
Satine is rolling around on the floor in the rug, her hair gets all messed up. As
Christian starts to sing she sits up right and we all see that her hair is
ruffled and in her face, but when she stand and walks to join Christian at
the window her hair has a perfect parting and is laying very neatly and flat
on her head! Contributed by Amy.
Continuity: In Come What May, when Christian is walking back to the stage, singing, he walks past
Sadie in the Orchestra Pit. Sadie looks right at him, and then in the very
next segment he is still halfway back down the aisle. Contributed by Carrie.
Continuity: The scene where Christian is sitting at the table during the Can Can. Right before Satine comes into the scene, the clip of Christian shows that he is wearing gloves. Satine comes in and suddenly within a matter of like two seconds the gloves are gone. Fan contributed.
Continuity: The scene where Christian and Satine sneak away during the play rehersal right before Zidler finds out about the affair. Christian and Satine are kissing and the camera shows his face with a little lipstick on it. He kisses her on the forehead and suddenly there is lipstick all over his face. Fan contributed.
Continuity: The scene where Christian throws money at Satine and walks away heart-broken. Christian takes off his Sitar Player costume and drops it on the floor. He walks back toward the stage and the costume is no longer on the floor. Fan contributed.
Continuity: Zidler's goatee disappears and reappears twice in the scene where he goes to keep Satine from leaving.
Continuity: In the scene near the end during the first performance of Spectacular Spectacular, there is a camera shot of Zidler turning around to look at the Duke. While looking at the Duke, the camera then points to the whole stage, including Zidler who is directly facing the stage.
Continuity: In the big production at the end, when Satine is rising up out of the crowd of dancers, we see her left leg exposed through the slit in her dress. Then, it cuts away and cuts back, and her leg is covered. Then, it cuts away and cuts back again, and her leg is once again exposed.
Revealing mistakes: In the last scene when Christian kicks Toulouse out of his room, Toulouse reaches down for the door knob. Since Toulouse is four-eleven, he should be reaching up.
Wrong goof? You decide: The Toulouse goof was wrong. Even at 4'11" he still reaches down for the door handle. I am 5'2" and the doorknob is still only mid-waist. Even in Europe where they're higher, they are about breast level. Still reaching down.
Continuity: The scar normally on the left side of Warner's face switches to the right side in the scene where the Duke threatens to have Christian killed.
Continuity: In the scene where Satine and Christian have snuck away from rehearsal and are kissing over and over again in the balcony, Satine's lipstick is at times perfectly on her lips then seconds after it is smeared and faint then back to being perfect again.
Factual errors: Early in the film, Citrine's bird's song is clearly a canary, yet throughout the film it is a lovebird that is shown in the cage.
Continuity: The piece of paper in Christian's typewriter is always new and prepared to begin writing on top although he is already speaking for some time to tell the story.
Continuity: Warner appears, disappears, and then reappears behind Satine's bedroom door.
