Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within Review |

Final Fantasy... It's hard to compare this movie to others cus it's just not the same. The story starts off with a dream that Dr. Aki Ross, the main character, has apparently been having a lot lately. The earth is being invaded by some aliens that are invisible, unless viewed with special devices. She lands in old New York, where it seems that the aliens have succeeded in destroying everything and everone. She is searching for something, when suddenly, some people with guns in weird suits come and try to arrest her. (I'm not going to say any more cus I might ruin the story.) The story, while having the potential to be really good, is well..., incomplete. They don't go into detail about how the enemy landed, what it was like before they did, and what happend right after they did. They start the story at the point where the earth is doomed and everyone is in shelter cities, just waiting to die. The end was also kinda incomplete, because they don't tell you what happens to everyone after. The graphics were awsome, as expected, but still noticably CG. There were some parts where it was hard to believe they weren't real, and some where it was obvious. The charaters looked pretty real, with natural imperfections and all, but the main character was REEAAAALLY obiously CG. Also, the characters made some unnatural movements here and there. Maybe it was her white suit? The enviroments looked nice, but once again, CG. This movie while not quite comparable with the good "real" movies, deserves something for being a first. |
