The National Military Strategy defines Peacetime Military Engagement (PME) as “all military activities involving other nations intended to shape the security environment in peacetime.”  Deployment of Coast Guard forces plays a vital role in shaping the security environment of other nations through forward presence, humanitarian assistance, professional exchanges, combined operations, training exercises, and other military or diplomatic activities.  Support includes performance of both traditional and non-traditional Coast Guard missions in conjunction with or in support of a foreign nation.
