| ? Born January 19th, 1909 and was always in the shadow of his parents who were both actors. ? Most widely known for his poems, short stories, and literary criticism. ? He was orphaned and then adopted by John and Fanny Allan. ? They lived in england for five years. ? He insisted on getting his education there, then moving. ? He attended the University of Virginia. ? Ed gambled because his father did not provide well enough. ? He left the University after one year. ? �Tamerlane� and also some of his poems were published in 1827. ? Enlisted into the army in 1928 and did well. ? He dropped out of the army and then went and applied for a cadetship at west point ? He Published a book, this time not anonymously but under Edgar A. Poe. ? After Publishing his book he received money to make another book, he acquired the money from his cadet buddies. ? Aquiring this money enabled him to start publish the next book and leave the cadets. ? He then Moved to Baltimore to live with his aunt. ? For the story MS. Found in a Bottle he won a 50$ prize. ? He married his cousin, who was only thirteen years old. ? He worked at the Baltimore Messenger but after his boss found out of his drinking problems he let him go. ? He wrote �Ligeia� (1839) and The Fall of the House of Usher (1839) ? Later stories include The Murders in the Rue Morgue (1841) which was sometimes considered his first detective story, and also �The Raven� which was written in 1845. ? �The Raven� symbolized a never ending mournful remembrance, which was basically the mind set of all of his writing. ? In 1847 Edgar�s Cousin/wife Virginia died. ? He took Virginia�s death very hard but he kept writing. ? He still wrote till the day that he died. ? He died October 7th, 1849. |
