General Hints: These puzzles are often poorly constructed and contain many errors. Don't bother asking GeoROCKS for hints as he won't help. Fortunately, geocachers are generally nice people and WILL help you.
For the Pole Position series, the "checksum" is constructed as such that you only have to solve some of the answers, assuming you got them all right and there are no errors in the puzzle.

A number like "3:62" represents the 62nd word on the 3rd page of the book. Something like "3:62 54 23" means take the 62nd, 54th and 23rd word from page 3.
Getting the full solution takes many hours of mindless counting. Many of the numbers are wrong, which leaves you to guess which is the right word.
Most of the text is simply a bunch of useless rambling. Near the end are the actual coordinates. Also in the text is the first code word you need to submit to "verify" your find.
