English learning sites

Are all sites that claim to be learning sites about the same? The quality, depth and scope of coverage vary widely. Some sites are more comprehensive than others. Some are easier to navigate (get around in easily) than others. Some are more interactive than others. The interactive sites usually allow you to test your knowledge and understanding of an area by testing yourself, playing games and doing puzzles. Some sites specialize in a particular area, e.g. reference sites like dictionaries, libraries and encyclopedias. The following are only a few of the many learning sites available on the Internet.

Part 1: Comparison

Explore the links under each main area and choose TWO sites from TWO areas to compare. Hence, you will be comparing two sites in one category, and two in another. Discuss which sites would be most useful to you and why. Post your assignment to your web site.

As you explore, make an annotated list of learning sites that you particularly enjoy or find useful. Give the URL and put a very short description of what you can find or do there--one or two lines. You can add these links to your web site after your comparisons. How you present this assignment is up to you. Some possibilities: You can do this entire assignment in MS-Word, using some of the graphical enhancements of that program, e.g. tables from the toolbar or drawing tools or insertion of images. You can do this in html using tables or lists or neither. It is up to you. Whichever you choose, make it a target link from the Assignment page.
