Our first day out we went to the Great Barrier Reef. It was so perfectly blue it was amazing. We took a sailboat out on a cruise and spent all day out on Michaelmas Cay, the weather was perfect and the sky was clear.

We took the opportunity to go snorkeling while there. The coral was really beautiful and seemed so close. There were tons of fish that swam between us and around as since they were so used to people being in their habitat. We got to see all kinds of other fun sea creatures too, sting rays, star fish and sea cucumbers. This shot is from when we got back on the boat, we were pretty happy even if our bums got a little sunburned from being pointed at the sun so long.

After the reef, we went to the rainforest. We took a great train ride up the mountain to the top, this was part of the scenic trip. |

Here I am admiring the foliage. There was a great rainforest hike when we got there. It was secluded and wasn't that long, but it is amazing how different the wildlife and everything is there. It was a little spooky, but we were never too far from the city. |

We crossed this stream on our hike. We encountered one of the few people we ran into in the middle of the forest here, so we had some pictures taken. I spent a lot of this time looking for koalas, much to my dismay they were not to be found. |

To get down from the rainforest, we took this skyrail that went over the canopy. It was pretty amazing to see from the top as well. We also met some nice old New Zealanders in our little cable car who liked us SO much. |

If even Krissy would rather not look, there was a pretty remarkable view out over the city and the ocean on the descent. It was the last stretch of the skyrail and it was beautiful to see the shore and the sea from this vantage point. |

After the rainforest, we went up to Cape Tribulation, one of the first areas Captain Cook found here. We spent a lot of time in the Kuranda rainforest in this region, but we had an hour to stroll the beach to, which I thought was great. We just strolled the sand and it was one of those perfect beaches that you see in the movies. Actually, thats quite literal, this beach is used periodically in several films because it is so remarkable. |

We also took a crocodile cruise while in Kuranda. The cruise and the river was pretty nice on its own, but we did manage to find some crocs. We saw a baby one about 3 feet long and then came across this monster. We found him in the water and watch him travel up and out onto the shore. He was estimated at 6 meters and it was a little scary. Luckily, I had faith the boat wouldn't tip. Again, the camera lets us down, so I marked him in case you couldn't see. |
