| The Cabot Piranhas Swim Team is a Central Arkansas Swim League swim team. Our team is managed by coaches and parents, sponsored by local businesses and supported by Cabot Parks and Recreation. To register for the Cabot Swim Team please call Cabot Park and Recreation at 501-605-1506. Registration typically takes place each year during late April or early May. Our swimmers are girls and boys age 4-18. Our season begins in late May and ends in late July with a Meet of Champs at UALR's Donaghey Center. We compete on Saturday mornings at visiting pools. Towns competing in our league are: Bryant, Lakewood, Lonoke, Maumelle, Otter Creek, and Sherwood. Swimmers include the "Mini Piranhas" (age 4-6) who are all encouraged to compete in the 25 M Kickboard (that's one length of the pool), 25 M Freestyle, 25M Backstroke, 25 M Breaststroke and 25 M Butterfly. Relay teams of four legs (25 M each) also compete. It is very important for the "Minis" to use proper strokes and kicks as well as hand holds on the kickboard and at the wall to avoid a DQ (disquailfication) or MB (move back) from the stroke and turn judges. The "Junior Piranhas" are broken into 7-8 and 9-10 year-olds. The 7-8 year-olds swim 25 M races. The 9-10 year-olds swim 50 M races and should expect to learn end turns and reaches to gain speed on turns. The "Senior Piranhas" are broken into: 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18 year-old age groups. Practices will begin in late May. Morning practices will run Monday - Friday at the Cabot Municipal Pool on Richie Road. Practice schedules for the summer season will be announced.. Swimmers begin the year at a beginning bronze level status. After the first meet, finishing times are used to determine if a swimmer will advance above the bronze level. Set time standards must be met in order to move up to either silver or gold status. The Meet of Champs is a meet for the top 8 finishing times in the bronze level and for all silver and gold status swimmers. Each win of a race adds 5 points to the team score. A second place adds 3 points. Third place adds 1point. Only one relay team earns points for the team. It is very important for all swimmers to swim their full number of races at each meet. Our 2001 season ended with a team second place ... only a few points behind first. One race could really make a difference in the end. Relays are especially important. Stick around for the entire meet and help your team out by participating on the relays. |
