Vietnam Trip - December 19, 2006
Tuesday

My mother picked Casy and I up at our apartment at 1:30 PM and drove us to Sky Harbor International Airport. She dropped us of at the terminal, and we said our goodbyes. We checked in our baggage and took America West flight 308 from Phoenix to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) departing at 5:33 PM Arizona time and arriving at 5:58 PM California time. The security check-in was tedious, especially for Casy. As a citizen of a Muslim country, Indonesia, her boarding pass had a special code on it and she was pulled aside for extra checking. This included a walk-thru screener that blew air at her and measured any residual dust that was blown of her. This test was to check for explosives.

At LAX, we had to take shuttle bus to the international terminal where we checked in for our flight on China Airlines. This was flight 7, which left at 9:15 PM California time. At the check-in counter, Casy had to specify that she was a vegetarian. The flight left on time, and dinner was served an hour after take-off. Special meals were served first, like meals for children and vegetarian meals. So Casy ate before me. Her food was actually quite good, and I tasted some of it. That is one nice thing about Asian air carriers; they serve good vegetarian food.
