MURDER AT THE ICE CREAM PARLOR
BACK TO HOMEPAGE
HELEN ENTERS THE ICE CREAM PARLOR FOR AN EARLY MORNING CUP OF TEA, ONLY TO MAKE A GRUESOME DISCOVERY...... Where was Harley, she wondered, glancing around the room. At the bak of the shop was s short hallway, leading to the restrooms and a storeroom. She cleared her throat and walked toward the soda fountain, her heels clacking noisily on the hardwood floor....... Glancing at her watch, Helen noted that she really needed to get back to the beauty shop. "Hello?" she called, irritation edging her voice. As much as she needed something to drink, she knew she couldn't wait any longer. As she turned to leave, she stopped. Something just didn't feel right. Where was he? Why would he leave the shop unattended? She glanced at the cash register. It was ajar. "Harley?" Harley Baker!" she called a little more urgently. Then, without waiting for a reply, she stepped into the hallway. To her right was the women's restroom, to her left the men's. Both doors were closed. The storeroom had no door and she could see boxes stacked on both sides of the entrance. Taking a tentative step in the dim light, Helen slipped and lost her footing for a moment. Strawberry sauce, she thought as she saw the small red puddle around her feet. What on earth is that doing here, she wondered as her eyes followed the stream. It was coming from beneath the door of the women's restroom. "Oh my," she whispered then cried, "Mr. Baker!" Her voice sounded hoarse and strained. She tried the door. It resisted. She tried again and it gave a little. Pushing a third time, she was able to open it enough to poke her head inside. What she saw both shocked and repulsed her. It was Harley Baker who lay sprawled on the bathroom floor, his throat slashed from one ear to the other. \
The Road to Romance reviews Murder at the Ice Cream Parlor: "The story weaves a number of suspects into the story line and all were presented in an excellent way. Many of us arm-chair detectives will enjoy trying to solve this and will be totally pleased when the real murderer is revealed. A very good mystery well worth reading." Louise Riveiro-Mitchell, The Road to Romance.
