How to Increase Guard
Drama
1)Talk about you
instructor behind their back and complain to your friends about them or other
members
2)Form cliques within your guard and purposely exclude
other members from socializing with you
3)Rank a person's worth
based on their piece of equipment or the number of years they've
competed
4)Be loud and obnoxious during shows, especially during
awards, a great thing to do is cheer when your rival group is announced in
second place making you first, really classy stuff.
5)Purposely
make a member feel bad about themselves just because they don't learn as
quickly
6)Isolate yourself from the group and try to befriend as
few members as possible
7)Make negative comments about another
group during a show, this is a great idea if you're sitting in stands where
parents or friends might be present
8)Act in an really
inappropriate manner while in your uniform, some suggestions are be loud, make
comments, cuss or swear alot, be or overly flirtatious, getting drunk or stoned
after a show and making an idiot of yourself in the parking lot is also a great
option.
9)Go after another member's boyfriend or friend, they'll
really love spinning with you after that!
10)Argue with the
instructor over why or why not you should be doing a certain set of
work.
11)Disrespect the guard Captain in front of the group, this
is a great way to undermine their authority and destroy the over-all unity of
the team.
How to Decrease
Drama
1)Be helpful not hurtful, if someone is
having a hard time learning something maybe they need a little extra help or
need it to be explained in a different way.
2)Make friend with as
many members as possible and don't be fake with them, be
yourself
3)When trying to tell someone how to do something use
supportive and positive words and a friendly tone, don't say "You're still doing
the angle wrong stupid", say "You're improving but your angle is still a little
off, maybe if you tried this..."
4)Socialize with other guards!
They're just a bunch of people like you and some of the best friendships come
from guards mingling with each other.
5)Don't show off or boast
about your position in the guard, remember that everyone has a part to play and
no-one is less important than anyone else
6)Throw guard parties
and invite EVERYONE, just hang out and watch guard tapes, get a pizza, have a
sleep over, anything to increase the bond within a group!
7)Get to
know your instructor, where they've marched, what they love about guard, what
they do in their spare time, their favorite color and food,
ANYTHING!
8)Start a tradition of buddying up freshmen with
upper-class members, a "big sisters" sort of thing. This way new comers have
someone they arent afraid to ask for help and upperclassmen are more considerate
of the newbies.
9)Give presents to the seniors or instructors at
the end of every season, your way of saying thank you for all the help and good
times they've given you.
10)Have seniors write up "Freshmen
Awards" for the new members. This can be as simple as a piece of paper that says
something special about each member. They don't have to be all nice and cute as
long they're not mean. (Examples) "Jackie: the Little Leader award" "Greg: Super
Smile award" "Hanna: Most Talkative award" "Casey: Marches to a Different
Drummer award" etc etc...
