Needs Analysis: Identify Needs and Goals
Instructional Needs 
1.  Students need to have the opportunity to engage in online learning activities so that they can become more informationally and technically literate.  4.  Students need to gain an understanding of the influence of significant composers (The Beatles).
2.  Learners need to acquire writing, problem solving, communication, information, and technical skills. 5.  Students need to be informationally literate, individually or as a member of a group, and use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose, and apply new and prior information in the planning and creation of a particular product or performance. 
3.  Students need to have the opportunity to take online courses for credit as an alternative to traditional classrooms. 6. Students need to satisfy the requirements for Writing I as outlined in the Sunshine State Standards for Florida High Schools, and the course description for Writing I by the Florida Department of Education in order to satisfy the graduation requirements.

1.2 Florida Sunshine State Standard Language Arts Reading Standard 1: The students should reflect upon their prior knowledge to use the reading process effectively. (LA.A.1A.4).

1.3 Florida Sunshine State Standard, Language Arts Reading Standard 2
Students should reflect on their prior knowledge and be given direction in order to construct meaning from a wide range of (online resources). (LA.A.2.4)

1.4 As defined by the Florida Department of Education: Teach students how to develop ideas and information clearly, maintaining coherence throughout the text, (online sources).

2.  Learners need to acquire writing, problem solving, communication, information, and technical skills.

2.1 Florida Sunshine State Standard Language Arts Writing Standard 1: Teach students how to use effective writing processes. (LA.B.1.4).
 

2.2 As defined by the Florida Department of Education:  Teach student how to write for various purposes and audiences using appropriate stages of process writing.
 

2.3 As defined in the Florida of Education Course Description: Students should reflect upon prior knowledge to develop ideas and information clearly, maintaining coherence throughout the (online resources). 
 

2.4 As defined in the Florida of Education Course Description: Write for various purposes and audiences using appropriate stages of process writing.
 

2.5 As defined by the Florida Department of Education Course Description:  Teach students to critique their own writing and that of others.
 

2.6 Florida Sunshine State Standard Language Arts Literature Standard 2:  Teach students how to critically respond to fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. (LA.E.2.4).
 

2.7 Florida Sunshine State Standard Language Arts Language Standard 2: The student understands the power of language. (LA.D.2.4)
 

2.8 As defined in the Florida of Education Course Description: Students will demonstrate appropriate style through the critical choice of voice, levels of diction, and figurative language.
 

2.9 As defined by the Florida Department of Education Course Description: Revise, edit, and proofread to ensure that writing achieves its purpose.
 

2.10  Florida Sunshine State Standard Language Arts Writing Standard 2:  The student writes to communicate ideas and information effectively.
 

2.11   Florida Sunshine State Standard Language Arts Literature Standard 1: Teach students about the variety of literary forms, poetry, biography, autobiography, fiction, nonfiction, so they will understand the common features of a variety of literary forms. (LA.E.1.4).

3.  Students need to have the opportunity to take online courses for credit as an alternative to traditional classrooms.

3.1 Students will have the opportunity to register for online classes by demonstrating entry-level computer literacy skills necessary for success in taking courses online.

5.  Students need to be informationally literate, individually or as a member of a group, and use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose, and apply new and prior information in the planning and creation of a particular product or performance. (Based on the Information Literacy Competency Standards from the Association of College and Research Libraries Standards).
5.1 Students will organize content in a way that supports the purposes and format of the product or performance.

5.2 Students will articulate knowledge and skills transferred from prior experiences to planning and creating the product or performance.

5.3 Students will integrate new and prior information, including quotations and paraphrasings, in a manner that supports the purposes of the product or performance.

5.4 Students will manipulate digital text, images, and data, as needed, transferring them from their original locations and formats to a new context.

6. Students need to satisfy the requirements for Writing I as outlined in the Sunshine State Standards for Florida High Schools, and the course description for Writing I by the Florida Department of Education in order to satisfy the graduation requirements.
