II  The Beatles: Music and Recording

     I have the learning objectives for each section listed above the activities and topics proposed for that section.

Objectives
SECTION TWO: MUSIC & RECORDING
1.  The students, when given records, cassettes, or tapes will listen to at least nine different Beatle songs and write five grammatically correct sentences for each song detailing what they liked, disliked, or remembered about each song with 90% accuracy.

2.  The students, using their five grammatically correct sentences for at least nine different Bealte songs and given Internet acces, a browser, and a discovery excercise will find the Beatle albums the songs came from and write a list of the songs with their cooresponding albums with 100% accuracy.

3. The students, when given access to the Internet, a broswer and a discovery excercise, will find the nine Beatle albums for the songs they wrote about and the dates they were released, and browse the WWW to identify at least one historical event that happened in the year the albums were released with 85% accuracy. 

4. The students, when given access to the Internet, a browser, and a word processor, will find information and describe at least three other performers, or historical events that The Beatles have influenced with 85% accuracy.

5.  The students, when given access to the Internet, a browser, and a word processor, will write a three to five page grammatically correct paper using at least three different Internet resources and citations detailing why the student believes The Beatles had an influence on one of the following topics with 85% accuracy.

      A) Music
      B) Lyrics
      C) Performances
      D) Sound recording
      E) Publishing
      F) The British Invasion
      G) Other Artists


                                      In this section you will have the opportunity to borrow The Beatle albums from
                                      your favorite Beatle fan (if you don't own them already!) and listen to the
                                      world's best rock 'n roll band!!!  Listen to this!!!  Sit back, relax and absorb 
                                      the best music made in the 20th Century! Your mission is to learn all you can 
                                      about the music that made The Beatles famous.  Find out why their music has
                                      withstood the test of time.  And, share your experiences with another Beatlemaniac!
                                      Also learn about what was happening in the world when this music was released and 
                                      how it has influenced generations of listeners.  Be sure to keep a record of all of the 
                                      URL's you visit.  You will be glad you did!

Assignment #1   Select ANY (Choice) nine Beatle songs and listen to them.  Be sure to keep a list of the songs and the albums on which you found the songs. Then write at least five grammatically correct sentences for each song detailing what you liked, disliked, or remembered about each song.

Assignment #2 Choice #3 Draw a picture of a character in ANY of the nine Beatle songs you listened to in Assignment #1 using any software you have available. Or, you may draw the picture and scan it.  If you don't have any software available you may try to create a rough sketch by using Paint Shop Pro, which is available for a free download for thirty days.  Click on the link below to download the software.

Assignment #3 Choice #1  Using the information you find at the Web site This Day in History, find at least one historical event that happened in the year the albums were released for all those you used to listen to your songs.  Keep a record of the URL(s) you used to look up the various historical events. It is best to highlight the URL and select copy, then paste it into your word processing document.
