III  BEATLE  REALATED ART

     I have the learning objectives for each section listed above the activities and topics proposed for that section.

Objectives
1.  The students should be able to design an album cover using a method of their choice.  They should be able to use a computer software program or be able to scan an image into the computer and save it on a disc.
2.  The students should be able to design and produce a collage that represents a decade.  They should be able to use a computer software program or be able to scan that image into the computer and save it on a disc.
3.  The students should be able to draw, or use any other method to depict one of the characters or places found in a Beatle song.  They should be able to use a computer software program or be able to scan that image into the computer and save it to disc.
4.  The students should be able to view one of the films of The Beatles and write a two to five-page grammatically correct paper concerning the film.
5.  The students should be able to list five fashion articles that were influenced by The Beatles.
6.  The students should be able to identify three fashion articles that were introduced in the 1960's and are still around in the year 2000.
7.  The students should be able to list ten different articles of merchandise that have now become popular collectibles associated with The Beatles by researching the topic on the Web.
                              In this section you will have the opportunity to look at the various types of art that
                              were inspired by The Beatles.  Your mission is to learn all you can about the album
                              cover art, the fashion, the films, and the merchandise related to The Beatles.  Then
                              using your artistic ability and talent, apply what you have learned to the following
                              activities.

Assignment #1 Choice #1  Go to the Internet sites that will show all of The Beatles album covers. 
Beatles Discography: The definitive official release discography on the Web - lists personnel, dates, even the original album/single/EP cover art  for the US and UK releases. Fantastic! From Victor Munoz.

Also, look at CD, cassettes, or album covers of your favorite bands.  Then design an album cover or CD art for The Beatles, or a group of your choice.  Use any software program or other medium that you have available.  Save the image to a disc.  Publish the image in a Web page and send the URL to the instructor.

Assignment #1 Choice #2 Browse the Net and find two sites concerning the art work on album, cassette, or CD covers.  Write a two-page paper, including the sites you found, detailing the process used to make the art work.

Assignment #2 Choice #1   Research the decade of the 1960's.  Then design a collage that represents that decade.  You can use a scanner or images you find on the Net. Use any software program or other medium that you have available. If you don't have a software program you can use Paint Shop Pro 6.1.
Paint Shop Pro 6.1:  Free download for thirty days.  This software allows you to do a wide variety of tasks including creating backgrounds, images and image manipulation.  Be sure to read the "How To" section after it is downloaded.

Assignment #2 Choice #2  Browse the Net and research the decade of the 1960's.  Write a two-page paper detailing statistics about the 1960's.  Include things like the population, and any other interesting facts you can find.  Then research the same facts about life today.  Draw a graph depicting the differences. Cite two Internet resources you found when researching the topic. 

Assignment #3Choice #1 Draw a picture and scan it in or use any software program or other medium that you have available in order to depict one of the characters or places you find in a Beatle song.

Assignment #3Choice #2  Manipulate a Beatle image that you find on the Internet using Paint Shop Pro or any other software program you have available.  Save the image to disc.
