Welcome to Unit 6
Introduction

There is a need to share the music, the culture and the love The Beatles gave the world with people of all ages.  The Beatles' popularity is a direct result of their music that has withstood the test of time.  When the four members teamed up, little did they know that they would mold a generation.  They became teenage icons but their talent catapulted the group to success.  Their hard work and devotion to their music would make them stand apart and above the rest.  Although there are a number of reasons for their lasting popularity, their contributions as innovators have secured them a place in history. They were the first group of the "British Invasion," and they opened the minds and hearts of Americans to become receptive to other British musical acts.  They paved the way for their colleagues to receive a fair amount of publishing and performance royalties.  They learned to use merchandising to increase their popularity and appeal to mass audiences.  They brought an entirely fresh look to America and wound up dictating the fashion of an era.  With their associates they had a lasting impression on the art world.  Their album cover art would revolutionize the pop-recording industry.  Their association with producer George Martin would have an astounding effect on the sound-recording industry, and new technological advances were made.  Their film and television appearances have captured precious moments in time.  Their influence has lasted and that influence went far beyond music.  They were serious and relevant artists that changed our cultural society in many ways.  The Beatles meant many different things to many different people. Their contributions to the cultural world and the humanities have captivated millions, and their significance requires understanding. Today a new generation of listeners is joining in and appreciating the creative genius of the greatest musical group of all time.
Your mission is to use this wonderful electronic environment to conduct your research about The Beatles.  Then you will have the opportunity to learn how to create and have your own Web page on Homestead.com.  You will be using all of the knowledge you learn about The Beatles to create and share your own tribute page.  Just follow the steps and activities to your new learning experience.

  • There are six assignments that you need to complete.  You can access these assignments from the main page for Unit 6.

  • It is a good idea to complete these assignments in numerical order.  Just click on the assignment number and you will be directly taken to that link.
  • Each assignment page plays a different Beatle song using a Cresendo player.  If you are unable to hear the music and would like to, please click on the box in the upper left hand corner of the screen and select download now.  The Cresendo player is free and it can be fun to listen to Beatle music as midi and wav files.  The Cresendo player looks and works similar to a cassette player.  If you would like to turn the music off, just click on the stop button.

  • Each assignment clearly labels the objective "what you should learn as a result of participating in the activity" above the assignment.

  • Each assignment also provides a link to the rubric for the assignment.  The rubric will specifically map out everything you are to include in your assignment.  It will also tell you how many points the different elements in the assignment are worth for grading purposes.
  • Almost every activity lets you make your own choices that will determine your own learning path.  Select the choice that you feel would interest you the most.  Then follow the rubric and links to complete each assignment.
  • You are to submit all of your work via the E-mail link that is provided to you at the bottom of the page.  Please submit all work as an attachment.  Let the instructor know the type of word processor that you used.
  • You will receive grades and comments about your work via E-mail from the instructor.
