Use Your Abilities for God

Read

God gives ability to all for their particular service.

1 Corinthians 12:6 TEV

Some of us have a natural ability with words; we came out of the womb talking! Others have athletic ability, excelling in physical coordination. Still others are good at mathematics, music or mechanics. "But I don't have any natural abilities," you say. Yes, you do! The average person possesses 500 to 700 different skills - far more than we realise. Listen: "Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV).

The Bible's filled with different abilities God uses: artistic, architectural, administering, baking, boat making, carpentry, debating, designing, embalming, embroidering, engraving, entertaining, farming, fishing, gardening, leading, managing, masonry, music, making things, painting, planting, philosophy, inventing, investing, sailing, selling, soldiering, tailoring, teaching, writing, literature and poetry. Do you see yourself in that list? Listen: "God gives ability to all (not just some) for their particular service" (1 Corinthians 12:6 TEV).

Some of us have the ability to make money. The Bible says: "God... gives you the ability to produce wealth" (Deuteronomy 8:18 NIV). If you have this ability use if for God's glory. "How?" you ask. First, realise that your ability comes from God, not yourself. Second, use your business to carry out God's business! Third, return at least a tithe (10%) of the profit to God as an act of worship. Fourth, make your goal to be a kingdom-builder, not just a wealth-builder.

God has a place where your specialties can shine and you can make a difference. Find it. Live in it, and you'll thrive!
