Side Engine Hood Sound More pictures
Sept 14 Update I updated more pictures. The 2 missing gauges in the dash are in a box. The windshield is dusty, so I highlighted the crack and the scratch. I took some more pictures trying to highlight the bottom of the car.
My car was made by the Glas company in Germany. All the GT's and V8 chassis were been shipped to Frua in Italy to get the body. The result was shipped back to Glas again to get completed with mechanical parts, interior and so on. So in fact its part German and part Italian - pretty neat!
I have had this car for many years and the club (www.glasclub.de) is essential for help.
My Part Substitution List (from my experience, use at your own risk):
Motor mounts: The front mounts can be replaced with a straight bolt like Chevy 1970 front stabilizer link bolts (except the middle spacer bar is a cube of rubber). That's what have done to my Glas. The front motor mounts appear to work great.
Clutch Master Cylinder: Mitubushi Montero clutch master cylinders bolt right up with only 2 new holes drilled in the aluminum shell.
Front Brake Pads: Mercedes Benz Rear ATE Brake Pads. These brake pads are ATE and the Mercedes Benz part number is 001 420 06 20. They will fit all Mercedes Benz' from years 1970 through 1985. They will also fit the 1986 year models for the following car, 300SEL. They also fit the 420SEL, 560SEL,560 SL, 300SE, 560SEC, 420SE, and the 300SDL for the year models 1986 through 1991. (I have a set of these pads for the car.)
Rims: 5JK-14H: Mercedes and "German" Fords have the same bolt pattern but offsets and hub hole will bite you. (On my Glas, I have original Glas rims, 3 GT rims, 2 regular rims.)
With a 1966 Glas 1700GT, from pictures/diagrams, it appears that:
1968 BMW 2002 clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder are perhaps identical enough to be substituted.
Front Brake pads MAYBE are the same with: 1967-1976 BMW 1600/2, 1600/2 Ti, 1600 GT, 1800 & 2000 - Front 1968-1976 BMW 2002
So I would assume that 1968 BMW "2002" brake caliper rebuild kits would work on a Glas.
1963-65 Porsche 356C brake Master Cylinder, (with brake light switch) appear identical?
JC Whitney sells 12 to 6 volt transistorized converters for gauges. For the less touchy devices, one can use For 12-volt systems using 6-volt accessories: model with 6- and 8-amp terminals; one with 10- and 20-amp terminals. I've seen on Speed Channel that one can buy a 12 v battery with 2 taps. One 6v tap and one 12v tap. I think that would be a darn good way to go. A GM alternator will work for converting to 12 volts, I believe I bought a small one to fit into the car. I'll see if I can find it. The original generator is there. Search google for tips on converting cars/tractors from 6v to 12v.
