Hieropreter interprets Manuel de Codage sequences including Gardiner
sign-codes and tries to convert them to English while preserving the
Ancient Egyptian word order. (AE word order is: verb subject object
abverb.) This program uses a dictionary of over 40 thousand entries!
Hieropreter helps you work with Manual de Codage and Gardiner
Codes. You can use '?'s for wild cards and ':' or '-' dashes to
delimit Gardiner sign-codes.

Hieropreter can either be ran as a JSP web page or a stand alone JAVA
application. This program requires Java 1.3 or above. If you wish to
use the stand alone application run runApp.sh or runApp.bat depending
on your operating system.

Many people are to be thanked for the Ancient Egyptian dictionary that
is used by the Hieropreter Ancient Egyptian translation program. This
dictionary has been compiled from the German Beinlich Ancient Egyptian
dictionary with input from that Daniel Boese and his brother, as well
as George Barret. Michel Mudde supplied me a king list of Juergen von
Beckerath's famous '84 "Handbuch". With help from Luca Brigatti, Mark
Vygus has provided A to i entries from Faulkner's dictionary. Many
entries have been entered in by me by hand from my copies of the
Faulkner's Concise Dictionary of Middle Egyptian, Gardiner's Egyptian
Grammer and Budge's An Egyptian Hieroglyphic Dictionary. Please
purchase those books, they are extremely useful!

Have fun,
