I just bought this '66 Corsa coupe from 4 hours away. Now I just gotta get
the car down to my brother's farm.
The Corsa needs its flywheel bolted, a couple of dents fixed up, paint
chip repair and a carb tune up. The car was restored in the early 80s.
The red interior is very good. There are dual antennas on the back. It looks very trick.
Except for the flywheel rattle at stop signs, it drives really nice. This
will be one of the first things to fix.
(July 1999 Update) I have completed a lot of work in the month that I have owned this car. I installed a new clutch assembly and a few new seals. (Pictures will soon follow.) I used the Fitch method of a wooden cart and dropped the motor out the bottom of the car. It worked extremely well. I have been involved in removing Chevy V8 engines, I honestly prefer the drop out method. No chance of scratching paint!
The old revitted flywheel was indeed loose, so I replaced it will a Dale Manufacturing bolted flywheel. The throw-out bearing was extremely loose, which I think that caused most of the noise.
Since the engine seeps/leaks/drips a lot of oil, I reengineered the heater box. Heck, I didn't have the whole summer to seal the engine. I blocked off the heater hoses, and I rerouted the "fresh air intake". That fresh air intake house previously sucked in oil vapor. (Don't tell the guys on the Virtual 'Vairs mailing about this cheat!) This kept me busy the month of June.
In early July, I started tackling the carb situation. I rebuild the primary carbs. The left side carb had 1/4 inch of muck in the bottom of the bowl. No wonder the carb liked to shut off.
When I bought the car, it the secondaries were blocked off. I got a pair of '66 secondaries and linkage.
With the help of my older brother Tim, I got that all hooked up. It definately has more power!
I replaced the dual glass pack mufflers on the car with turbo mufflers. I got a local garage to bent 2 pieces of muffler pipe in sorta an S shape. I then installed that at the end of the mufflers to clear the air grill. Notice the chrome tips...
As you may also notice, I recently bought new tires for mag rims that I got with the car. I think it looks pretty mean.
(Sept 99) I finished installing my CD player and 4 new speakers. The rear speakers are in boxes in the rear package tray, while the front speakers are in small black boxes on the floor ahead of the shifter. With the Corvair's flat flooring, the boxes sit nicely there.
