It is hard to imagine that the tragic events of September 11, 2001 are now a year old! Fortunately the ceremonies and press marking the first anniversary help us reflect not only on the losses that day, but all of the caring and positive things that people have done for one-another as a result. Certainly Auxiliary members have done their share and I understand recognition of this is being given in the form of a new ribbon award which has been authorized for all current members. More on the details at our next meeting.
Folks, it is that time of year when dues must be paid to continue membership and service and fun for another year! Many have already done so, but send your dues to Lynn Williams now to avoid us having to start the cumbersome and costly process of disenrolement. We don't want to lose anyone - but neither do we want to pay National, District and Division dues on former members who no longer interested in participating. Thanks again to those of you who have paid on time!
Most of you are aware that we only had five people signed up at start time for our BS&S class so we have delayed it. Im sure Ron Tvorik has filled us in later in the newsletter, but he is trying to reschedule the class to start on October 8. I am working on two or three more class prospects and would ask each of you to do the same. Its great for boater education - even more so with the lake dropping - it brings us some revenue for our other projects, and it is a good source of new membership!
Looking ahead, dont forget to get yourself requalified in all areas, get your vessels ready for facility inspections next month, and be thinking about our future leadership. Elections are right around the corner and anyone desiring to be considered for elected office must have completed one of the approved administrative courses. They are relatively simple but very informative about our organization.
Thanks again and keep up the good work!
With the boating season drawing to a close the lake levels will begin to dropping. There is still a need for patrols on the weekends, hunting season is now underway and DNR is pulling double duty. We are still receiving calls for assistance on the weekend. Last year we provided almost 200 patrols, this year at last count we were less than 70. I would encourage each of you to consider some fall patrols, it's a beautiful time of the year to be on the lake and it will provide you the opportunity to become familiar with the changes in the lake.
This is a reminder for those members that dont know what is required of them each year to remain qualified in the different programs.
8 hours of operations at the highest grade achieved. If a Coxswain you must have 8 hours on the waters as a Coxswain. If only Crew qualified, you must have 8 hours on the water as a crewman; also, you must complete your Annual Currency Maintenance and send the forms to DIRAUX WEST.
Any coxswain can check off themselves or any crewman. Attend the annual workshop.
Every 5 years, a QE must check you out and, pass the Navrules test again.
Teach one 2-hour course or teach 2 hours of member training, or 4 hours as an aide in either PE or MT.
You must do 5 MV visits each year.
A member, who fails to achieve the Annual Currency Maintenance, will be dropped from the system until they get re-qualified. If you look at the meager requirements to stay qualified, no one should ever lose their qualifications for this reason. Come on, 8 hours on the water for a whole year. Five CMEs for a whole year, or 2 hours as the lead instructor or 4 hours as an Aide. You should be able to get your requirements completed in one day instead of a whole year.
The following members of 12-3 will lose their qualification if the ACM is not achieved.
Brown, C, Coxswain needs 8 hours as Coxswain.
Brown, J. Crew needs 8 hours as Crew
Miller, H. Coxswain needs 8 hours as Coxswain
Burton Crew needs 8 hours as Crew
Detuelo Crew needs 8 hours as Crew
Dunbar Crew needs 1 hour as Crew
Jones Coxswain needs ACM as Coxswain
Mikutaitis Crew needs 8 hours as Crew
Moye Crew needs 3 hours as Crew
Dahlgren MV needs 5 visits
Davis, D. MV needs 5 visits
Mendenhall, G. MV needs 5 visits
Owen MV needs 5 visits
Dahlgren VE needs 5 CME
McCallister VE needs 5 CME
McCoin, K. VE needs 2 CME

Where has this year gone? I've ordered more 1 cent stamps & business envelopes but I'll miss this meeting. Bobby & I will be in Florida taking in the District Meeting among other places of interest. The "word" has finally come down from Group CHS and DIRAUX that we can now wear the dark blue tee shirts, so I pick-up those for the people who have ordered them.
Submissions for the newsletter are due the 10th of each month. Any member can submit material, not just the elected and staff officers. In fact, I encourage anyone to do so. I also would like to again remind those officers (elected and staff) of the importance to our membership of your reports. I can't publish it if you don't write it. Thank you to those who do take the time to do their reports each month.
