This is my little dog Gypsy's story. We adopted Gypsy on December 5, 2000 from an animal rescue group. They told us she was about 10 months old but I think she was probably more like 4-6 months old. I saw her picture in a local shopper's guide and called about her. I was told she had been dropped off and found by the rescue group. She was adopted by a lady who had her for a couple of months, from what I understand. The lady found out she was terminally ill with cancer and returned her to the rescue group. After a week or two she was adopted again but she was coming back the next day. The people who adopted her this second time said she wasn't house broken and just wasn't fitting in. I asked how long the new people had had her and was told two days. Two days! How in the world could you have any idea how she was going to fit in or if she was housebroken in only two days? I thanked the lady and told her I'd call her back in a day or two. I waited two days to call and see if she had indeed been brought back and how she was doing. I was told that she was there and seemed to be doing just fine. It was fairly late in the evening when I called so I asked for directions and when I could see her. The lady told me that the rescue was run out of her home and I was welcome to come on ahead up now so I loaded my kids and myself into my truck and off we went to see her. When we arrived Gypsy looked nothing like the picture in the paper. In the picture she looked white and fluffy, in reality she was a reddish blonde with a semi wire coat. My kids fell in love with her immediately, of course. She was cute, even though she wasn't what I had expected. And talk about affectionate! She gave out more kisses than any dog I'd ever been around. After a few minutes I decided to take her home with us. I don't know who the folks were that brought her back to the rescue group but I'd sure like to thank them for not keeping her. Gypsy was not only housebroken (after two days of getting used to the new home) but she is the smartest, most loveable, affectionate, eager to please, well mannered and well behaved dog I've ever been around.

A few months ago I became associated with another rescue group, Hearts From Heaven, and have built them a web site. I think these groups are an absolutely wonderfull cause and due so, so much good not only for the animals they help but also for their communities. If you are looking for a pet I highly reccomend that you look at one of these groups first.
