My Review: *Scott Millman was the first to put CD Reviews on his page, go to my links section to go there.
Korn's self-titled CD is my favorite out of their 4 releases. This first CD is definitely the least produced, most raw of their 4 discs. It's this raw quality that gives the CD an edge that their others try and emulate but don't quite achieve. This CD came out before rap/metal was the next big thing and it contains little, but sometimes noticeable hip-hop influence. This CD is absent of the blatently hip-hop inspired style of Korn's 3rd CD 'Follow the Leader', the over-the-top anger of 'Life is Peachy', and the way over-produced 'Issues'. This is Korn at their best.
The first song on Korn's self-titled CD is one of their best, "Blind". Next up is a hip-hop influenced "Ball Tongue", and from their rage builids up with each song up until "Shoots and Ladders", which offers a bit of comical relief, and a moment to relax. Again you descend from song to song into more and more pure rage until you reach the excellent final song "Daddy". This song begins with the pain-filled voice of Jonathan Davis begging his mother for forgiveness and builds into an ultra-emotional rage filled masterpiece that leaves Davis crying by the end of the song. If you've ever seen Korn's home video release 'Who Then Now' then you know that Davis put his all into the creation of this song.
I recommend this song to fans of Limp Bizkit, Rage Against the Machine, Linkin Park, basically any new rap/metal style band that has come along. Although Rage came along before Korn, Korn has pioneered their own sound and I think they are probably the best of the bunch when it comes to the rap/metal sound. If you don't want to buy the CD but still want to hear some of the songs, download "Blind", my personal favorite "Divine", "Shoots and Ladders", and "Daddy".
