| The CFWA was the brainchild of Gabe Thompson (a.k.a. John Doe and Gabriel Octane), along with fellow University of Northern Iowa students and residents of Bartlett Hall's Arapaho House Kyle Sellner (a.k.a. Sweet Daddy O' Joe Perry) and Brian Dunn (a.k.a. Brian HavoK and Brian Ash). Initially, the CFWA was not much more than glorified horseplay among friends. Soon John Pauly (a.k.a. The Drubber Johnny Clueless), and Jermie Diekman (a.k.a. Pugsly Smirnoff) joined the fray and by December, 1998, the members of the CFWA were ready to hold their first event, Finals Free For All as a House Program in the basement of Bartlett Hall. The "ring" for this show, and the subsequent shows in March, 1999 and May-Hem in May, 1999, consisted of spare bed mattresses. Initial crowds ranged from 30-40 people. The CFWA became an official UNI student organization in October, 1999 and moved back into its current (and in some ways former) home in Room 214 of the East Gym, which the members of the CFWA have affectionately dubbed the "East Arena." |
