Ian debuted in the CFWA by wrestling future tag team partner "Beautiful"
Brent Filmore to a time limit draw at No Remorse in November, 1999. One
month later, they teamed up to defeat Torturous Tony Sly for the CFWA Tag
Team Titles at Hardcore Holi-Daze. However, a feud began between McMurphy
and Filmore after Brent seemingly caused them to lose their Tag Team Titles
to Citizen Pain at Extreme Retribution in February, 2000. Ian defeated his
former partner in what many labeled the match of the year at Reckless
Abandon in April, 2000. Four weeks later, fan favorite Ian McMurphy captured
his first CFWA Heavyweight Title by defeating Torturous Tony Sly. After some
title defenses in October, 2000, Ian turned on the fans that had made him a
CFWA superstar and eventually formed Flex Appeal 2001 with Adam Kage, The
"Real Deal" Dean Collins, and Commissioner "Attitude" Chris Ryan. Ian and
Kage won the CFWA Tag Team Titles at Hardcore Holi-Daze in December, 2000
and had a lengthy reign as champions. Ian defeated the returning "Beautiful"
Brent Filmore at Reckless Abandon in April, 2001 in a brutal match. Three
weeks later, at Excessive Force, Ian defeated CFWA Heavyweight Champion
Torturous Tony Sly and The "Real Deal" Dean Collins to become only the third
two-time CFWA Heavyweight Champion. However, Sly defeated McMurphy in a
rematch the following evening to win the title back and end McMurphy's
career due to a pre-match stipulation. Ian McMurphy will always be regarded
as one of the greatest technical wrestlers the CFWA has ever seen and one of
its greatest champions!
