The Long Kiss Goodnight

The broken dance of the forgotten dream

When hands let go and loved ones scream

Where it ends we do not know

Bearing scars that never show

Cut the cord.  Disrupt the flow

Just close your eyes and go

Anger and laughter combine hard and real

Caught in the arms of aging appeal

Behind liquid eyes and harshness surreal

Old money burns and smoking tires squeal

Take a deep breath and let the wounds heal

Just close your eyes and feel

Try to stay cool, but inside it shows

Rolling like smoke that billows and flows

A kiss in the dark like the thorn from a rose

Bearing a mark that nobody knows

A rend in the seams, a tearing that grows

Blanket your mind and pull your eyes closed

Racing towards shadows that slither and grow

With your foot to the floor and nowhere to go

Adrift like a ghost in the dead, liquid glow

Caught in the tide in this mad ebb and flow

Shaking your head like you just didn’t know

Don’t close your eyes and go

The edge of your life resides in this night

Where futures collide with all of our might

Roaring through crossroads past broken streetlights

Miles beyond words and too tired to fight

Convincing ourselves what’s wrong and what’s right

In this soft serenade, it’s the long kiss goodnight

Look up again

It all fades to white
