Hold-up
(An Ode to Grandma)
Grandma’s
medication is not made for recreation
But
it’s socially acceptable,
And
the buzz she get’s incredible
You
might say her life’s regrettable
Watching
her glide in a psychedelic stream
With
the heroine shakes of the American dream
Drifting
in a pile of millennium soma
Tottering
around in a mindless coma
Everyone
says it’s no big deal
Until
grandma starts to reel.
The
corner druggist is her new best friend
She’s
starting to think it’s the sixties again
He
never fails to cure what ails
With
those mind-numbing chemical cocktails
It’s
not some stuff from across the border
There’s
no need to worry, it’s just doctor’s orders
Today
she got lost on her way to the store
Granny’s
his bitch, his pill popping whore
And
everybody says it’s no big deal
Until
granny’s behind the wheel
Each
day she gets up and gets out of bed
Another
day wasted and nothing gets said
Looking
for something to take off the edge
Sitting
alone, she’s never been told
How
to deal with the fact that she’s old
Buried
in legal mountains of dope
At
least that’s one way to cope.
And
everyone says it’s no big deal
Until
there’s nothing left to feel

I
can’t wait until I’m sixty-five
Reunite
my college guys
Drop
out of work and get so high
I
think I’ll never die
And
everyone says it’s no big deal
Until
there’s nothing left to steal
