| TRANSPORTATION PLANNING Our Transportation Planning activities includes: 1. Scenic Byway 2. Assistance with Transportation issues and funding requests 3. National and historic resource information for Georgia Department of Transportation road projects 4. Mapping of the region's centerlines, sidewalks and multi-use paths These activities assist local governments by identifying resources and addressing quality of life issues related to transportation, increasing public awareness of impending projects and establishing better road mapping. HISTORIC PRESERVATION PLANNING The RDC provides a range of historic preservation services. We help governments, groups and individuals identify, recognize, protect, rehabilitate and reuse historic buildings. We prepare grant applications for publicly owned historic buildings and for historic downtown revitalization projects. We help administer these grants. We help local governments establish and implement preservation ordinances and related tools. We educate the public about historic resources and tools available to rehabilitate historic properties, and help groups and individuals prepare National Register nominations. We also support efforts to protect and promote archaeological places. GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM Our GIS services provide mapping support for the activities of both the RDC staff and our counties and municipalities. This includes technical support, the provision of digital data, and large printed maps (up to 36"x48"). Past projects have included the mapping of town infrastructure (fire hydrants, manholes, water valves), county-wide hydrants, fire station relocation, prime agricultural land, municipal surface water intake watershed studies, and the packaging of an environmental database for the CFRDC region. GRANT PREPARATION AND ADMINISTRATION We assit local governments with preparation of various grant applications, some of which include Community Development Block Grants, Quality Growth Management, Land and Water Conservation, Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority, Historic Preservation and Federal Emergency Management Administration funding programs.
