Good Investments (Both Time & Money)By Richard Rowley
Most of our better paying "gigs" come from booking agencies but they need a few tools if they are to get the most money for our musical appearances. If you are starting out or want to attract their attention... these tools are supplied by you and should be considered as a good investment (in yourself).
Here is what you should have ready:
- Professional 8x10 Black & White Glossy Photo of you/and the entire group. (Hire a professional Photographer).
- Cassette and/or CD (Professional quality) of at lease 4 or 5 songs. (A DVD or video cassette will be even better). (Rent a Recording Studio).
- Biography Page(s) containing the bios of all the group's current musicians...adding photos will also enhance your package. (Use nice stationary paper).
- Repertoire (Latest song list) Include information: Original Artist, type of rhythm (2-step, waltz, etc.) Type of music: Cajun, country, swamp-pop, Southern Rock, etc.)
- List of places and events of previous performances. (Combine with bios into a brochure...nice!)
- Stage "Set-up" Diagram... showing the locations of drums, amps, how many vocal microhones and their locations and anything else a sound engineer and stage crew should know.
- Business card and a brochure will also enhance your professional image with these agencies and other people in this business.
