Actually, getting your student pilot's license is pretty easy. You have three choices (FAR 61.85): 1. Find a local physician who is also an FAA-designated Aviation (or Airman) Medical examiner (AME). Any local flight club or flying school can help you find one. Make an appointment for a physical exam and explain that you want to obtain a student pilot's license. The doctor will have the necessary FAA paperwork for you to fill out, and will give you a special exam at the same time to make sure that you are medically qualified to fly. The exam is required before you can obtain your license (FAR 61(c)(1); therefore, most people find going to an AME to be the easiest and most convenitne way to obtain their student pilot's license. 2. Make and appointment with an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE), and explain that you would like to obtain a student pilot's certificate. The DPE can give and assist you with the necessary paperwork, and can help you find an AME for the medical exam. 3. Pick up a blank Student Pilot Application at an FAA FLight Standards District Office (FSDO). Fill out the application and bring it with you when you go to the AME To Go Back To The Previous Page, Click Here |
