POEMS:

A Little Boy's Prayer-- a poem written by the grandmother of a young man with CF.

Captain Underpants comic strip by Max Potter

Joshua, age 7, lives outside of Southport, NC with his parents.  He was very young when diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.  He was born in West Virginia, and his family still has very strong roots there.  In 1996 his family moved to North Carolina to be closer to UNC Hospitals, where he is a patient.  He has a buddy in the CF Friends program that has visited him at the hospital, at clinic visits and at his home.  He loves Scooby Doo, bike riding, reading, drawing, riding in his go-cart, the mountains, and most of all his parents.  His favorite food is Mexican.  He also has two dogs, Hooch (shown) and Peanut.  He also loves his little sister, Cheyanna, who is nearly a year old.

A Little Boy's Prayer

A sick little boy got down on his knees;

His eyes filled with tears, this was his plea.

"Dear God in Heaven," his prayer began;

"There are things in my life I don't understand.

I have questions without answers, I ponder each day,

When asked, 'Why are you sick?,' what should I say?

Did I do something wrong?,  Are you mad at me?,

Am I being punished?, 'cause I'm different you see.

Why must I be sick and each day filled with pain,

I'm trying to be good and not to complain."

A brightness filled his room, someone called out his name,

"You are different, you're special, let me explain.

It takes someone strong to endure suffering and pain,

Not everyone can bear it and still not complain.

From the very beginning, you've been brave and strong,

With your fears, I give you strength to help you along.

When the pain is so bad and you can't bear anymore,

With 'Just one touch' from above, it doesn't hurt like before.

When your mind is filled with confusion and uncertainty,

I'm right there with you, although you don't see.

You did nothing wrong, just chosen for His plan,

To glorify God before earthly man.

So dry up those tears, put a smile on your face,

You're protected by God, through His loving grace."
