| History The Wildcats are one of the original 5 CFFL franchises, and they were a perennial doormat. They began play in 1990 as the Canucks behind first round pick Joe Montana. They finished in last place in 1990, 228 points out of first place, and 134 points behind the 4th place Cardinals. After the season, they changed their name to the Wildcats. The team did better in 1991, finishing 4th out of 6 teams, 236 points out of first. They finished last in their division, but did finish at .500 with a 7-7 record before losing to the Steelers in the first round of the playoffs. 1992 saw a return to the basement for the Wildcats, as they finished in last place, 528 points out of first. They also finished in last place in their division, at 3-10-1, although they threw a scare into the Tigers in their playoff game, losing 46-45. In 1993, Nick Nahirniak turned control of the Wildcats over to Steelers owner Chris Karpuk, who renamed the team the Bears. The new name and change in ownership didn't do much to improve the team, as they finshed in 6th place in the 8-team CFFL, 332 points out of first. They finished 3rd in the CFFL South, with a 5-8-1 record, and lost to the Broncos 26-21 in the first round of the playoffs. After the season, the team was merged with the Steelers, ending their existence. |
