The Gators were one of the teams added in the 1992 CFFL expansion. They were owned by Tigers owner and CFFL commissioner Greg Karpuk. They were the most successful of the CFFL's expansion teams.
In their inaugural season in 1992, the Gators finished 4th out of 8 teams in the points standings, 322 points behind the champion Tigers. They finished in 2nd place in their division with a 7-7 record, and lost to the Dolphins in the first round of the playoffs.
In their second season in 1993, the Gators finished in 2nd place in the points standings, only 33 points behind the champion Predators. They also won the CFFL South, going 9-4-1, and made it to the chmapionship game, where they lost to the Steelers 25-16.
The Gators slipped in 1994, finishing 4th out of 6 teams in the points standings, 178 points behind. They won the CFFL Soth division again with a 9-5 record, and beat the league champion Tigers in the championship game at Tiger Field, 29-26.
The Gators had a great start to the season in 1995, but their existence came to an end when the league shut down after Week 9. They were in first place in the points standings, 101 points ahead of the Predators. They also were leading the CFFL South, tied with the Tigers for the best record in the league at 6-3.
