DANCING AND DRUMMING

Dancing

girls dancingSelf-expression and physical release - One of the most basic motives of dance is the expression and communication of emotion. People—and even certain higher animals—often dance as a way of releasing powerful feelings, such as sudden accesses of high spirits, joy, impatience, or anger. These motive forces can be seen not only in the spontaneous skipping, stamping, and jumping movements often performed in moments of intense emotion, but also in the more formalized movements of "set" dances, such as tribal war dances or festive folk dances. Here the dance helps to generate emotions as well as release them.

People also dance for the pleasure of experiencing the body and the surrounding environment in new and special ways. Dance often involves movement being taken to an extreme, with, for example, the arms being flung or stretched out, the head lifted back, and the body arched or twisted. Also, it often involves a special effort or stylization, such as high kicks, leaps, or measured walks. Dance movements tend to be organized into a spatial or rhythmic pattern, tracing lines or circles on the ground, following a certain order of steps, or conforming to a pattern of regular accents or stresses.

Dance can, in fact, create a completely self-contained world for dancers, in which they are capable of physical effort, prowess, and endurance far beyond their normal powers. Dancers are not just performing artists; their bodies are also the instruments through which the art is created. The quality of this art, therefore, necessarily depends on the physical qualities and skills that dancers possess. The stronger the more flexible a dancer's body, the more capable it is of a wide range of movements. Daily classes are necessary not only to mold the body and develop the necessary physical skills but also to maintain the body in its proper condition and prevent injury. Many dance movements make strenuous and unnatural demands on the joints, muscles, and tendons, and it is easy to strain or damage them if the body is not properly maintained. The exercises involved in a dancer's training depend on the style of the dance.

Drumming
Benefits of Drumming

young boy drumming1.Unity: Drumming is a powerful experience of unity for a group, it brings people together, it is a common focus. Leaves people with a sense of belonging to a large orchestra. It is one of the only ways to get really large groups to do something very enjoyable and interactively together.

2. Mental Shift: The effects of drumming on peoples mental state is very profound in that the focus, stress release and group energy after a team building drum circle, all add together to leave people feeling both stimulated relaxed and receptive. This is a highly effective tool to create an ideal environment for speeches and awards.

3. Physical SHIFT: It is sometimes very physical activity, which can be a great stress release. Breaks the ice and leaves people feeling relaxed. Can be equated to a meditation and therefore very rejuvenating especially after hard work.

4. Fun: Really fun way to do something together. Everybody will be smiling and in a great mood. This form of corporate entertainment breaks the ice unlike any other. It's a real celebration. Drumming has been used in weddings and parties for centuries. People lose inhibitions, and allow them selves to experience the moment.

5. Unique: Using drumming for a corporate entertainment or team building event is very memorable since it is such an unusual thing to do. Most people will never have drummed before, and certainly would not have seen a large group formed into an instant orchestra. It's a great way to get a large group dong something that is truly together. One headmaster told us that it was the first time in the history of his school that the whole school did something truly together. We give each delegate a large African Djembe drum, made in West Africa.

6. Skills development. Depending on the brief, we have many processes that are beneficial for a company for example it's a great way to highlight the learning of a new skill, and on top of that to be able to embrace change as the session evolves. Through both the team building and corporate entertainment events, people really learn to listen to each other. People work in a cooperative rather than competitive way. It is a great way to feel the way your group carries you, and there is a sense of belonging. It is a great way to teach coordination to people, which is actually beneficial to them in their lives. The understanding of the importance of rhythm in all areas of life can be a great insight. Stimulates creativity, which can actually carry over into the workplace. Left and right brain are used at the same time which really stimulates creativity and increases concentration.

7. Cultural Diversity: Drumming is a great way to open people up to the beauty of diverse cultures, in this case, Africa. It is a universal language and therefore showcases the power of diverse cultures. We Actually do entire shows without saying a word in English, using only body language.

8. Breaking barriers. Drumming is successful in groups of very diverse participants. Old young, male female, any religion, language, seniority etc can all do it together and it is a very universal activity. Sometimes it is healthy for management to do something together with other departments where the playing fields are levelled.
