Match Report
This hard fought contest ended in a 3-2 victory for Collingham, after suffering 2 defeats on the trot it was about time the team got back to their winning ways, but this battle wasnt as easy as to win as we thought.
Collingham were very slow out of the traps and didnt get it together at all the start, passing was sloppy and the effort applied by most of the team was minimal. A combination of these two factors left Collingham in a suprising position of being 2-0 down in the first 20 mins. This shall we say was a bit of a 'kick up the arse', the team pulled then fingers out and developed some determination. Attack was flowing but too often in front of goal we lacked clinical finishing, however we did break through, when Nocivelli hit a half volley which the keeper failed to stop. Apparently to the lads this was enough job done...it wasnt Greenbank came back at us and immediately hit the angle bar, a wake up call that wasnt really needed after 30 minutes of football. For the remainder of the half the game was a bit scrappy.
Then after a few harsh words of reality, and some tactical advice Collingham began the second half. Again a wake up call was needed but fortunately it was early and the team after it didnt faulter. We began playing good football but again lacked the killer instinct up front. So a change of personnel was in order Dawson was directed up front replacing Betts (who had had a quiet game). It continued much the same, and in between a Parlett goal-line block and more missed chances not much happened. Then an injured Chris Williams resulted in Dawson being put back to the familiar role of centre back. Which left mmm oh yes Betts the net breaker, who was reserved for much of the game till now. What a change, the anger...the determination to prove himself, whatever it was it motivated him it worked. Within two minutes of coming back on, he found the ball at his feet after a defensive error..and he captalised by skipping past two on gliding the ball past a diving keeper. We were back in it, 2-2 with 10 minutes to go...tackles were getting harder, aggresion was steaming and the spectators were screaming. Then it came the goal we wanted, and from guess who...Scoring Sam picked up the ball after a delightful through ball by Dawson and drilled it across the goal in to the net, stunning and superb his ninth in the league this season. Collingham then proceeded to hang on to the lead with an allround solid second half performance, inparticular the members at the back.
A great game overall especially for the spectators, but more importantly another win...although not convincing it was good enough against a gritty Greenbank side.
