Not an impressive performance at all! The team did not perform today at all. We only occasionally looked useful, but we won...and a win is a win. So we will take the points and learn from todays game.
The game started off at quite a slow pace with Collingham trying to pass the ball around and keep possession. The passing though was too often too sloppy and also we didnt keep the ball on the ground and with the wicked wind as it was the ball was flying all over the place. Despite this though we did break through after about 5 minutes when Sam Betts was sent through on goal and he slotted home neatly. It was our first shot on goal and it was great to see it go in. The game pretty much continued like this for the rest of the half, there were few incidents to report except for an appalling challenge on Robert White when two Glebe Park players went into a very late tackle together! That was it really, well not quite... there was a certain scoring machine Sam Betts to report on. He added a brace to his first to give himself a hat-trick, and a tally of 5 goals in the league...and it was well deserved as Sam worked extremely hard and showed awesome composure in front of the goal.
So we went in at half time 3-0 up. The score was pleasing but the performance wasnt. There was little movement and far too often we looked poor on the ball. Anyway we came out hoping for a better showing in the 2nd half but it didnt quite happen. The game got nasty and scrappy. This initially started because of a challenge on the keeper when the ball was in his hands, which resulted in their first goal. The referee either failed to notice it or was ignoring it. Heads dropped, we began to play worse and rage was evident in each and every player. Then things got worse poor defending combined with a difficult wind resulted in an easy chance for their front man to convert. It was appalling defending and perhaps if the players put as much effort in to playing as they did moaning then it might not have happened.
Tempers got worse, players needed to be told to be quite and in the end it wasnt a good game of football to watch, but as I said earlier a win is a win. It could be argued that a small pitch, a bias referee, a bunch of dirty players and a horrible hurling wind didnt help but I feel that the players let themselves down today. I suppose its a sign of a good team though, when you dont play well but win. So we will leave it at that, i'd like the players to forget that game but learn from it. Well done for winning though, and maintaining our %100 record.

MATCH REPORT - 07/10/01
Glebe Park 2 - 3 Collingham
Sam Betts - A strong performance from Supersam, with a great hat-trick. He held up the ball well, released it effectively, made darting runs and more importantly scored our goals. He did all that with fantastic grit and determination as well.
Well Done Sam!
