Match Report
Well lets just call this game a goal fest after only scoring 4 goals in the previous 3 games, I think the lads thought that it was about time the ball felt the netting a bit more, and sure if enough they made it happen.
With 3 key players out (Dawson, Betts and Williams) we went to sunny skeggy expecting goals but a bit unsure of how many. Collingham revealed a new signing today in Richard Lamb, a naturally left footed midfielder...and he capped his debut with a goal...all be it a scrappy one but a goal. However it was 1 of 19, and rather than write an endless report on each goal Ill list the scorers, and describe some moments of the match that I can recall.
Firstly the scorers...James Nocivelli 6, Jamie Gavin 3, Lee Cook 3, Lee Woolley 3, Steven Wilkinson 2, Tom Edens 1 and finally Richard Lamb 1 (give me a second whilst I catch my breath).
Well goal of the match has to go to Jamie Gavin for his splendid 25ish yarder that rifled in to the roof of the net, incidentlly Jamie was outstanding today...kept his head, didnt get over confident and set a good example to the team.
Miss of the Match had to go to everyone on the team, because I dont think there was player (except Robert) who couldnt of scored today. In particular which caused ruptions of laughter and our captain Parlett to fall over in stitches, was that of Dodds. A superbly taken corner which Phil rose perfectly for, was met with a schoolboy eyes closed and head down header, after he'd done the hard work of getting the ball he let himself down. However one man who was clinical in front of goal today was Nocivelli, he was a class act in front of goal today and converted 6 of his 8 or 9 chances, a great strike rate, well done!
Move of the match was a result of a precision through ball by Gavin to Edens who them beautifully crossed the ball, only to be met with a crafty Cook diving header. A pleasure to watch.
Moment of the match (well there was 5 of them actually) was after scoring the 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th goals, the determination of the team to get the ball. It was like the whole team were behaving like bulls and the other team were wearing red. It was pheonomenal, to see 6 or 7 orange shirts so determined to get the ball, a great site, and determination I hope that can be seen throughout the season.
This particular game took us top of the league with 5 wins out of 5, a 100% record that I hope can be maintained. A week off now for the lads and then in two weeks time Ordsall at home. Well played today but lets not get over confident. Well done nonetheless.
