Disappearing Down the Stretch No, I’m not talking about the White Sox (sorry, Southside Fans, couldn’t resist…), I’m referring to myself. I won’t have Internet access for most of the season’s final weekend, so I won’t be able to input the weekly roster moves. Never fear, though. Rich, who so ably and admirably filled in for me when I went on vacation earlier this year, will again be there to ensure the CFCL rolls on. Starting next Friday (September 29), send all roster moves to Rich, who will update the rosters at TQS. If I have the time, I’ll post an early-bird report on Friday morning containing the traditional CFCL Race Report looking at where points can be gained/lost in the final days. Of course, it’ll be pretty pointless this year as the Championship’s been pretty much a foregone conclusion for 3-4 weeks now … though there are a couple of tight races elsewhere. I’ll be back online on Sunday for the season finale. Thanks to Rich for stepping in again. Minimum IP Update Last week, I wrote about the struggles of the Stones and Lambchops to reach the 1000 IP minimum. One week later, and with slightly over a week left to go, both teams are still short of the mark. The Stones are still about 24 IP short, but they should be able to just eek over 1000 in the next period (they posted about 30 IP last period). The Lambchops recorded a whopping (for them) 40+ IP last week, and since they’re just about 40 IP below 1000, they may be able to top the mark as well. A lot may depend on how MLB managers run their pitching staffs and how starting rotations shake out in the final week of the season. Here’s hoping both teams crack the 1000 IP mark – they’ve got a great race going for 10th place and it would be a shame if it were decided by one of the teams pulling zeros in three categories… Record Book Another thing to keep an eye on during the next week are CFCL records that are poised to fall. The Ruffins appear to be a good bet to top the 2004 Copperfields record of 3262 Total Bases in a season – they’re only about 100 away. If the DoorMatts starting pitching comes through over the next week, they can top the season record of 119 Quality Starts which is currently held by the 2005 Da Paul Meisters. The Ruffins will cruise past the earlier record for Total Points, which was 104.5, set by the 2004 Stones, and they could also top the 2003 Reservoir Dogs’ mark of 58 Offensive Points. Most-Improved Competition The DoorMatts have made a late charge into second place in the CFCL Standings (as of 9/21), and along with that have crept a little closer to the Copperfields and a copy of the original 1984 edition of the Rotisserie League Baseball book. The book will go to the team that improves the most point-wise from 8/31 to the end of the season.
Copperfields
+10 Hometown Discount Watch In 2007, the teams that finished in 5th-12th place in 2006 will receive a budget of up to .06 to use toward reacquiring players who had played out their option with the team (B-contract players). The exact amount each team receives will be based on how far behind the 5th place team they are at the end of the year, in terms of a percentage of the 5th place team's point total.
Since the trade deadline has passed, here’s an early
peek at the players who will probably be HTD-eligible in the 2007 Draft:
Record Book Week Ending 09/22: No new records were set this week.
